Breast Implant Replacement

Modern breast implants are long-lasting. Some may even last for 20-years or more. But the truth is, they are not designed to last forever.

While breast implant replacement may be a non-issue for some women, there are various reasons others will need to consider revision. Some of the most common include:

  • Breast Implant Leak or Rupture
  • Complications Such as Capsular Contraction
  • Implant Crease, Wrinkles, or Ripples
  • Bottoming Out

Some women may also choose to replace their implants to change size or shape, upgrade to modern silicone options, or improve initial results.

Breast Implant Warranties

The breast implants placed by board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Schiesel are covered by warranties to offset the costs of revision surgery made necessary by implant failure. These warranties cover issues including rupture, capsular contracture, late forming seroma, and double capsule. They do not cover revision to change outcomes, upgrade to silicone, or adjust the shape or size of your implants. However, if revision is made necessary by a covered issue, they do offer your choice of implant for replacement, including adjustments to shape and size.

Breast Implant Illness

Breast implant warranties do not cover breast implant illness (BII). This extremely rare risk of breast augmentation may be marked by joint and muscle pain, breathing difficulties, sleep disturbances, and memory and concentration problems. Revision surgery is not suitable for the treatment of BII. Only explantation and capsulectomy have been shown to address this issue.

Explantation involves the permanent removal of breast implants. Capsulectomy involves the removal of the breast implant capsule. Performed in conjunction, these procedures have been successful in providing relief from BII. If you believe you are suffering from BII, we can discuss these options in greater detail to help you determine what might be best for your needs.
