Dermal Filler Treatment

Dermal fillers treat various signs of aging. Injected into targeted areas of the skin, dermal fillers can:

  • Add volume to hollow cheeks, sunken eye sockets, and concave temples
  • Reduce the appearance of nasolabial folds, lip lines, and skin wrinkles
  • Lift sagging jowls and redefine the jawline
  • Add volume and symmetry to the lips

Common active ingredients in dermal fillers include hyaluronic acid, paly-l-lactic acid, and calcium hydroxylapatite, all of which act differently when injected. However, many stimulate the production of collagen and elastin, which help soften wrinkles, lift droopy skin, and add volume to the treatment area.

At South Tulsa Plastic Surgery, we are pleased to offer fillers from the Belotero® and JUVÉDERM® families, both of which utilize hyaluronic acid as the active ingredient.

What is Hyaluronic Acid?

Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance that helps skin retain its moisture. As we age, the amount of hyaluronic acid in our skin begins to diminish, allowing it to wrinkle, fold, and sag.

Many topical products, including several popular over-the-counter creams and serums, contain concentrated levels of hyaluronic acid. These can assist in moisture retention and help soften fine lines and wrinkles, but placing the substance topically will not net the same results as having it injected into your skin.

When hyaluronic acid is injected, it stimulates the production of collagen and elastin, two proteins necessary for full, soft, and youthful skin. As with hyaluronic acid, collagen and elastin diminish as we age. Through their restoration, ageless beauty can be temporarily obtained.

The amount of time a filler lasts will range from person to person, but treatment with both Belotero and JUVÉDERM fillers can produce results for six to 18 months, and sometimes more. Some JUVÉDERM formulations, such as VOLUMA® XC and VOLBELLA® XC, may even last up to two years, though your results will depend on factors unique to your anatomy, lifestyle, and skin care routine.
